Three leading EU animal welfare bodies are calling for an end of live exports to Turkey.
Netherland’s-based Eyes on Animals, Germany’s Animal Welfare Foundation and Switzerland’s Tierschutzbund Zurich, who have spearheaded a 5 year investigation of the tragic trail from the various corners of Europe to Turkey, have come to the conclusion that 70% of trucks to Turkey were found to violate the European Regulation EC 1/2005.
This shocking Turkey statistic comes in the wake of a livestock transport crisis in Australia, whereby live animals destined for Vietnam were tragically left at sea, with many dying needlessly.
This damning evidence gathered by these noble organisations should give fresh incentive to improve livestock transport conditions in the EU even more. The EU has so far as a body created more transport related regulation then any other supra-territorial body in the world.
The improvement of transport conditions is one of Slaughterhouse Reform’s key issues. We need more legislation to sort out this shocking industry.
